US national network CBS, owned by Paramount Global, has struck a multi-year domestic broadcast rights extension with women's basketball's top-tier WNBA.

The tie-up, unveiled by the broadcaster yesterday (April 10), includes eight games from the upcoming 2024 WNBA season airing on the main CBS broadcast network, with another 12 to be shown through the CBS Sports dedicated outlets.

This deal is an extension of the existing WNBA-CBS tie-up, and will run alongside the 12-team league's other domestic broadcast contracts for the 2024 season. Deals are already in place with ESPN, Amazon Prime Video (announced late last week), and with Scripps Sports.

The first game of the 2024 WNBA campaign to be shown on CBS will see the New York Liberty take on the Minnesota Lynx, on May 25.

The specific CBS broadcast network game schedule for 2024 consists of six Saturday afternoon games, with the other two to take place on Sunday afternoons.

Dan Weinberg, CBS Sports' executive vice president of programming, said: “We’re thrilled to extend our strong partnership with the WNBA. As the league continues to build momentum, this is a great opportunity to expand our broadcast presence and further lean into our commitment to providing a national platform for women’s sports.”

Over the past few weeks, the WNBA has unveiled commercial partnerships with Opill and La Crema, the near-global media rights extension with Prime Video, and a UK-specific deal with TNT Sports.

The 2024 WNBA campaign gets underway on May 14, with regular-season action ending on September 19.

The men's NBA, meanwhile, is shown domestically by ESPN and the US TNT network (as well as by various local market networks).
