Bundesliga International, the global commercial rights division of the German men’s soccer league structure, has extended its video archive partnership with global sports and entertainment agency IMG until the end of the 2025-26 season.

The long-term renewal will see IMG continue to license the archive video content from German soccer’s top two leagues.

Under the agreement, certain footage dating back to the 1963-64 season will also be made available on IMG’s digital archive platform IMG Replay, alongside selected archive highlights and programming.

This new deal will build on Bundesliga and IMG’s existing partnership, where IMG retains the rights to sub-license top-tier Bundesliga and second-tier Bundesliga. 2 archive content to territories around the world excluding Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Liechtenstein, and Luxembourg.

IMG will support global media companies, brands, and partners to sub-license content from the Deutsche Fussball Liga’s (DFL) historical database, which spans 60 years, going back to its inaugural 1963-64 campaign.

The ‘DFL Media Hub’ provides national and international media partners with access to over 200,000 hours of historical film and video recordings from the Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2, as well as working with the DFB (German Football Association) to include Liga 3, the Women’s Bundesliga, the DFB-Pokal cup competition, and men’s and women’s international matches.

More than 12,000 hours of video material are added to the DFL Media Hub each season and is available via the DFL’s Sportcast subsidiary.

Peer Naubert, chief marketing officer of Bundesliga International, said: “This season, we celebrate 60 years of the Bundesliga. Through our long-lasting partnership with IMG, we are able to ensure that unforgettable snippets of German football history and culture are not only preserved but shared and enjoyed around the world.”

Tom Barnes, vice president of IMG Replay, added: “Bundesliga has given us some of the most memorable action in world football featuring legends of the game. As one of the most popular leagues in the world, we are delighted to renew our long-term archive partnership and give current and future generations a chance to relive these iconic moments again and again.”

IMG Replay holds one of the latest sports archives globally via deals with the International Olympic Committee, English soccer’s Premier League, World Rugby, the Wimbledon grand slam tennis tournament, golf’s DP World Tour (formerly European Tour), mixed martial arts' UFC, and boxing’s Queensbury Promotions.

It recently renewed its video archive partnership with ATP Media, the media arm of the men’s professional tennis tour, through 2025.

Soccer stands as the most active and main beneficiary of the payment sector's sponsorship spend

Engagement with the payments sector is not a new trend for sports rights holders, considering the year 2023, the sector remains one of the most profitable partners to the sports industry, with close to $2.5 billion commitment through 1385 active partnerships. Soccer is the primary recipient of the payment sector's $2.5 billion commitment to the sports industry in 2023, with soccer deals accounting for over 30% of total payment sponsorship value. Some of the largest payment sector companies, such as MasterCard and Visa, are at the forefront of sports sponsorship, aligning with popular sports entities to boost customer preference and increase their market share globally.
