Budapest will stage the final of the UEFA Champions League, European men's soccer’s elite club competition, for the first time in 2026, it has been announced today.
The competition’s showpiece will be held at the Puskás Aréna in the Hungarian capital following a decision by the UEFA executive committee at its latest meeting in Dublin ahead of tonight’s Europa League final.
The venue hosted the final of UEFA’s second-tier Europa League last year, and the UEFA Super Cup in 2020.
In addition, four matches at the UEFA Euro 2020 national teams tournament (played in 2021) were held at the Puskás Aréna.
The UEFA executive committee was also due to award hosting rights for the 2027 Champions League final, but a decision has been suspended until September as the governing body seeks more information on refurbishment plans for the San Siro stadium in Milan.
However, decisions were taken on the host cities for the finals of the other club competitions. Beşiktaş Park in Istanbul, Turkey will stage the 2026 Europa League final, while Stadion Frankfurt in the German city will host the 2027 edition.
Meanwhile, the 2026 Conference League final will be held at the RB Arena in Leipzig, with Beşiktaş Park hosting the following year.
This year’s upcoming Champions League final on June 1 will take place at Wembley in London, UK with the 2025 showpiece to be held at the Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany.
Tonight’s Europa League final, between Germany’s Bayer Leverkusen and Italy’s Atalanta, is being held at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin and will be followed by San Mames in Bilbao, Spain next year.
This season’s Conference League final will take place at the Agia Sophia Stadium in Athens on May 29, with next year’s edition to be held at the Wroclaw Stadium in the Polish city.
Meanwhile, UEFA has selected the Ullevaal Stadion in Oslo, Norway to host the 2026 Women’s Champions League final.
The executive committee will, however, be forced to open a new bidding procedure for the 2027 final as Stuttgart submitted the only bid but could not be considered as Germany has already been appointed for finals in 2026 and 2027.
The UWCL final will this year be held at San Mames, followed by the Estádio José Alvalade stadium in Lisbon, Portugal, next year.
