BeIN alters French NBA deal to include all Wembanyama games

Every game played by the San Antonio Spurs will now be covered live by BeIN for a French audience.

US top-tier basketball’s NBA has altered its tie-up with BeIN Sports in a move that gives the pay-TV media heavyweight rights to cover all games played by the San Antonio Spurs, who contain French sensation Victor Wembanyama.

The original deal, struck in 2020 and giving BeIN rights in France to cover two live games per NBA evening, will now see that number increase to three when the Spurs play a regular season match.

The alteration came into effect on Sunday (November 5), as the Spurs took on the Toronto Raptors, and lost 123-116. The Spurs drafted Wembanyama in June as the first overall pick.

In addition to the live NBA coverage on BeIN Sports, there is also an NBA Extra show each day between Monday and Saturday, the Sunday Night Live show, and the NBA Extra podcast.

The current tie-up between the NBA and BeIN in France was unveiled in December 2020 and runs until the end of the ongoing 2023-24 campaign.

That campaign began in mid-October and runs until April 14. The Spurs’ next fixture comes on November 9 (French time), as they take on the New York Knicks.

BeIN, in early October, bolstered its portfolio of US sports rights in France with the addition of the 2023-24 NHL ice hockey season.

The one-year deal completes BeIN’s US sports offering as it already holds rights to American football’s NFL, WNBA, baseball’s MLB, and NCAA college basketball and football.
