Tennis Data Innovations (TDI), a joint venture by the ATP, the organizer of the top men’s tennis tour, and ATP Media, the global sales broadcast production and distribution arm of the ATP Tour, has launched a performance analytics platform to give competing players a deeper insight into their strengths and weaknesses.
The platform, Tennis IQ, will give ATP singles players access to advanced match analytics, including live in-match data to help players prepare for matches and provide post-match analysis.
Features include interactive court graphics, allowing players to visualize their own performance data and gain insight into their most and least successful patterns of play during matches. Metrics include TDI-developed insights such as shot quality, in-attack, and steal score.
Tennis IQ’s scout section will enable players to access detailed information on upcoming opponents, including tendencies and patterns. Players will also be able to compare their performance against individual players and ATP Tour averages.
The platform will be accessible to ATP Tour players via both mobile and desktop. Subsequent iterations of the platform are already in development for 2024.
TDI chief executive David Lampitt said: “Tennis IQ is the latest step in our journey to unlock the power of tennis data. It brings the sport’s incredible data richness to life for players – adding another layer of analysis and strategy to the on-court action.
“Our investment in capturing deep data from every court across the ATP Tour has enabled the delivery of Tennis IQ and we’re going to continue pushing these capabilities even further in years to come.”
The platform comes as the ATP continues to push data-led insights into the sport and modernize the game after introducing off-court coaching last year.
TDI was formed in late 2020 to “manage the aggregated rights to ATP Tour and ATP Challenger Tour match data, coupled with certain media streaming rights, to enrich fans’ enjoyment of tennis and make tennis even more accessible to the digital audience.”
The organization then appointed Lampitt as its first chief executive in December 2021.
Ross Hutchins, ATP chief tour officer, said: “Never before have high-quality analytics been as readily available to so many players, as it is with this platform. Tennis IQ will help create a level playing field across the Pepperstone ATP Rankings – enabling more players and their teams to perform at their best.
“It also reflects the emphasis we are putting on data innovation as a business. We're thrilled to see Tennis IQ in action and to continue advancing the product.”
