Wimbledon, the iconic tennis grand slam, will receive additional coverage in New Zealand with ATP Media’s Tennis TV streaming service showing the climax of this year’s tournament.

Through a collaboration between ATP Media, the broadcast arm of the ATP Tour, sports marketing giant IMG, and Wimbledon organizers the All England Lawn Tennis Club, the grass court event is the first grand slam to be streamed on the OTT platform.

Viewers in New Zealand can watch the finale from SW19 via the Wimbledon International World Feed, live or on-demand, through to the men’s final on Sunday (July 14).

The day’s action is live-streamed on Tennis TV and then also made available in full afterward on-demand, with additional content published on Tennis TV’s social media channels.

Wimbledon is still being covered primarily by free-to-air broadcaster Television New Zealand (TVNZ) in the country.

The men’s semi-finals take place at Wimbledon today with defending champion Carlos Alcaraz taking on Daniil Medvedev and seven-times winner Novak Djokovic facing young Italian Lorenzo Musetti - who has reached the last four of a grand slam for the first time.

Saturday’s women’s final, meanwhile, will be contested by Italy’s Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejčíková from the Czech Republic. The matchup has guaranteed a first-time Wimbledon women's singles champion for the seventh consecutive edition.

The success of New Zealand’s Lulu Sun has driven significant interest in the event locally, with the 23-year-old qualifier reaching the quarter-finals in the women’s draw.

Mark Webster, chief executive at ATP Media, has said: “This initiative between the All England Club, IMG, and ATP Media in New Zealand shows that dedicated sports OTT services can help complement a linear TV broadcast offering in a market, targeting different audiences on a wide range of streaming devices and social media platforms.

“We are extremely proud of what we have achieved with Tennis TV and take great pride in broadcasting Wimbledon on the product. It breaks new and exciting ground for Tennis TV, almost 20 years since its creation.”

Paul Davies, associate director of broadcast, production and media rights at the All England Club, added: “We are delighted to partner with ATP Media to provide such comprehensive coverage of this year’s championships across New Zealand.

“Complementing the free-to-air offering on TVNZ, the live and on-demand service on Tennis TV has allowed tennis fans to watch all the action at any time of day, including Lulu Sun's historic run to the Wimbledon quarter-finals.”

Tennis TV streams every ATP Tour tournament live and on-demand, featuring live scoring and match highlights, as well as an archive of classic ATP Tour matches.

The platform was first made available as a combined ATP Tour and WTA streaming service in 2009, following its initial launch in 2006.

In sharing its 2023 financial results this week, ATP Media revealed Tennis TV grew its subscriber revenues by 13% last year.

ATP Media’s revenue grew 12% from $180.4 million to $202.9 million in the year to December 31, with the return of the Shanghai Masters event among the contributing factors to this increase.
