McDonald’s Australia, the regional arm of the global fast-food giant, has renewed its sponsorship deal with the Australian Professional League, the commercial and marketing body for soccer in the country.
Under the new tie-up, McDonald’s will continue as the official quick service restaurant and coffee partner of the men’s and women’s A-League soccer competitions, as well as the E-League esports competition.
The fast-food giant will retain its presence on media and digital platforms across all three leagues and will also keep naming rights for the men’s and women’s match center on desktop, mobile, and app. It will also gain digital signage opportunities during men’s and women’s A-League matches.
A-Leagues commissioner Nick Garcia said: “We are proud to extend our partnership with such an iconic brand like McDonald’s – increasing the support for football, especially women’s football, across the A-Leagues.
“McDonald’s is a long-standing supporter of the game having partnered with the A-Leagues, with many A-Leagues Clubs, and at a grassroots level for more than six years.
“We can’t wait to bring more football to more fans, in partnership with Macca’s, across season 2023-24.”
Amanda Nakad, marketing director for McDonald’s Australia, added: “Australians have a special connection to the A-Leagues and the feel-good moments the sport has given them over the years.
“We are proud to extend our partnership and play our part in helping the A-Leagues continue to have a positive impact on people and communities across Australia, as the Official Quick Service Restaurant and Coffee Partner.”
The new deal comes a week after the APL announced its chief executive Danny Townsend had immediately stepped down to lead SRJ Sports Investment, the sports investment fund of Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund.
The APL which oversees the men’s and women’s A-Leagues, has not appointed a direct successor to Townsend but has announced James Rushton, managing director of the APL’s digital arm KeepUp, will lead the APL going forward alongside commissioner Nick Garcia.
Both will report to the APL board and newly appointed independent chair Stephen Conroy.
The women’s 2023-24 A-League started earlier this month (October 13), while the men’s A-League began on October 20.
