The World Rugby governing body has brought in global energy solutions firm Aggreko as a commercial partner for next year’s Women’s Rugby World Cup in England.

Through a tie-up unveiled yesterday, Aggreko becomes the 16-team event’s energy transition solutions provider.

The firm will provide temporary electricity systems across the tournament, as well as temporary battery, solar, and energy storage systems. It will operate, maintain, and repair this technology across the World Cup's eight venues.

World Rugby has said Aggreko will provide solutions such as “uninterruptible battery systems, stage V generation, smart distribution systems and battery storage systems.”

Aggreko adds the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup to a sports sponsorship portfolio that also includes motor racing’s Formula 1 (through a multi-year tie-up announced in August) and all-electric single-seater motor racing series Formula E.

Across rugby union, meanwhile, the brand acted as a tournament supplier to the men's 2019 Rugby World Cup in Japan.

Sarah Massey, managing director for Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, has said: “Aggreko’s cutting-edge solutions and commitment to sustainability will help power our venues while ensuring we deliver an unforgettable tournament experience. This partnership underscores our shared ambition to create a positive and lasting impact, both on and off the field.”

For World Rugby, this deal follows on from Ocean Outdoor, a digital advertising specialist, being appointed as the 2025 tournament’s digital out-of-home (DOOH) media partner.

Under the agreement, Ocean, a partner company of investment company Atairos, will promote the event across its OOH advertising portfolio in the UK.

November also saw the appointment of global ticketing giant Ticketmaster’s sports arm as the official ticketing service provider for the 2025 World Cup.

Next year’s tournament, the 10th edition of the event, will take place from 22 August to 27 September across eight host locations.

David de Behr, Aggreko’s head of sales for major events, added: “Aggreko has a long-standing relationship with the global rugby community and is thrilled to once again be part of this prestigious tournament which looks to inspire more women and girls to embrace the game of rugby around the world.”
