Abu Dhabi Championship to stay on DP World Tour schedule until 2028

The tournament’s next edition in 2024 will become the first of two tournaments in the season-ending play-offs.

DP World Tour (formerly European Tour) will continue to feature the Abu Dhabi Championship on its tour schedule after securing a five-year partnership extension with the Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the governing body for sporting events in the kingdom.

The partnership, which first began in 2006, will see the Abu Dhabi Championship remain on the DP World Tour calendar until 2028, with the tournament’s next edition on Yas Island in 2024 moved from its traditional January slot to November 7 to 10.

The scheduled move sees the event become the first of two tournaments in the new season-ending DP World Tour play-offs, featuring the leading 70 players on the tour’s 'Race to Dubai' Rankings. The top 50 players at the end of the tournament qualify for the season-ending DP World Tour Championship in Dubai.

The tournament’s elevated position on the DP World Tour is likely to see it give out higher ranking points and prize money.

The DP World Tour announced a revamp to its 2024 calendar in August, with new events scheduled to take place in Dubai between January 11 and 14, and in Bahrain from February 1 to 4.

Members will compete for a record overall prize fund of $148.5 million outside the majors – an increase of around $4.3 million from this year.

The calendar will feature what the tour describes as "three new and distinct phases" on its season-ending Race to Dubai - five ‘global swings’ from November this year to August 2024, a ‘back 9’ in September and October next year, and then two playoff events next November.

In total, a minimum of 44 DP World Tour events will take place in the 2024 campaign, across 24 countries and five continents.

The schedule has been released against the backdrop of negotiations around the merger (announced in June) between the DP World Tour, US golf’s PGA Tour, and the Saudi-backed LIV Golf property.

Analyzing the dynamics and business of the English Premier League

The Premier League is one of the biggest and most popular soccer leagues in the world and forms part of the ‘big five’ leagues contested in Europe. The team sponsorship market is worth $1.5 billion in the 2023-2024 season, with the technology sector emerging as the most prominent industry, with 55 deals. Betting brands retain large prominence on Premier League shirts and are responsible for ~35% of all team shirt deals this season, as clubs cash in before the looming ban on such deals.
