Japanese automotive manufacturer Toyota has returned to the Formula 1 (F1) motor racing series after announcing a technical partnership with the Haas team.

Unveiled today, the multi-year tie-up with Toyota Gazoo Racing, the carmaker's motorsport division, starts immediately with branding on the cars driven by Nico Hulkenberg and Kevin Magnussen at the Circuit of the Americas in the United States Grand Prix on October 20.

Toyota Gazoo Racing will become Haas's official technical partner with both parties sharing expertise, knowledge and resources.

Toyota will provide design, technical and manufacturing services, while Haas will offer technical expertise and commercial benefits.

Haas will continue to use Ferrari power units after agreeing a contract extension in July to the end of 2028.

The agreement sees Toyota return to F1 for the first time since 2009.

The Japanese manufacturer spent eight seasons in F1 as a works team and engine supplier.

Toyota entered F1 with their own team in 2002 but never won a race despite having one of the sport's biggest budgets. They also provided Williams with engines from 2007 to 2009.

“In return, we offer a platform for Toyota Gazoo Racing to fully utilise and subsequently advance their in-house engineering capabilities."

Domestic rivals Honda, who left F1 in 2008 but returned as an engine maker in 2015, currently partner champions Red Bull. In 2026 they will be starting a new and exclusive relationship with Aston Martin.

Toyota is shifting its focus back to motorsport after recently announcing it will not renew its long-standing deal as a top-tier partner of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Haas are currently seventh in the constructors’ championship ahead of the upcoming US race.
