TGL, the new tech-infused golf league, achieved strong domestic viewership numbers for its debut earlier this week on US network ESPN.     

The competition drew an average audience of 919,000 on Tuesday night (January 7), with viewership averaging more than 1 million between 9:15 and 10:15 pm Eastern Time.

The audience peaked at 1.1 million viewers.

TGL, founded by icons Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy’s TMRW Sports entertainment venture in partnership with the PGA Tour, teed off with The Bay Golf Club (Ludvig Åberg, Wyndham Clark, Shane Lowry) defeating the New York Golf Club (Xander Schauffele, Matt Fitzpatrick, Rickie Fowler) 9-2 in the 15-hole match at SoFi Center in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida.

The second match of the season on Tuesday (January 14) will feature the TGL debut of Woods and his Jupiter Links team (Kevin Kisner, Max Homa, and Tom Kim) vs. Los Angeles Golf Club (Collin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose).

The full season of TGL matches will air and stream exclusively on ESPN platforms, including 15 regular season matches followed by playoffs. The season concludes March 24-25 with the finals.

The league finally made its long-awaited debut with initial plans to begin in 2024 having been scrapped due to storm damage to the host venue.

In total, TGL features six teams of PGA Tour stars competing in a season-long competition.

Ahead of its debut, the league has recently secured several broadcast partners in key global markets including Sky in the UK, Canal Plus in France, Switzerland, and sub-Saharan Africa, and Disney+ in the Nordics.

Other international media partners include Fox Sports (Australia), Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ (Canada), U-Next (Japan), and JTBC/Phoenix Sports International (South Korea).
