Pay-TV broadcaster Sky Italia has acquired two new TV rights packages for domestic soccer’s second-tier Serie B until the end of the season.
Sky has purchased a highlights package, consisting of the goals and highlights of all the matches played in each remaining round of the league, as well as a bar-hotel package, giving it rights to provide live broadcasts of matches in commercial establishments.
Serie B tendered the new packages on Tuesday (March 18) and accepted Sky's offer today.
The bar-hotel package, purchased for €90,000, will see Sky show four matches in each of the remaining eight matchdays of the 2024-2025 season.
Sky has paid €70,000 for the highlights package, meanwhile.
The agreement commences on matchday 31 of the championship, which begins on March 28 and will also include any playoffs and playouts.
Sky becomes Serie B’s third domestic media rights partner, joining primary rightsholder DAZN, the global streaming service, and the Amazon Prime Video OTT platform.
DAZN eventually stepped in and secured the main domestic Serie B rights following a lengthy and convoluted sales process by the league.
Serie B was forced to issue several rounds of tenders after failing to come up with a solution until very much the last minute.
The league agreed a three-year deal with DAZN covering the 2024-25, 2025-26, and 2026-27 campaigns, to avoid a domestic broadcast blackout.
Through its deal with Amazon, Serie B launched a channel to stream its matches on Prime Video.
From the beginning of the 2021-22 season through the end of the 2023-24 campaign, Serie B was broadcast by a mix of Sky Italia, and now-defunct streaming service Helbiz.
