European pay-TV giant Sky has announced the renewal of its carriage deal with e-commerce giant Amazon’s Prime Video OTT streaming service.

Sky will continue to carry Prime Video on its services across its major European markets – the UK, Ireland, Italy, and the DACH region (Germany, Austria, and Switzerland) – through this tie-up.

The service will be available as an add-on app for Sky customers with a Prime Video subscription.

Speaking on the deal, Sky's chief business officer Nick Herm stated: “At Sky, we want to provide people with the aggregation platform of choice that brings them with all their favorite apps and channels in one place.”

Prime Video Europe vice president Barry Furlong added: “We know Prime Video customers appreciate being able to access all their favorite TV series, movies, and live sport from Prime Video whilst watching Sky.”

This deal means that Sky will maintain its carriage of Prime Video’s sports portfolio, which in the UK, Germany, and Italy (from a sports rights point of view) currently includes a package of first-pick Tuesday night games from European soccer’s elite UEFA Champions League.

Prime Video also currently holds a minor slate of domestic English Premier League rights, although that will end at the conclusion of the current 2024-25 season.

Major tennis rights in Germany also form part of the offering.

Prime Video itself already has carriage deals with a number of services including American football's NFL Game Pass, which it distributes in the UK through a tie-up with fellow OTT service DAZN.

For a fee of £29.99 ($39.10) per month on top of the base Prime Video subscription, customers can watch the service as an additional channel through the Prime Video platform.

Sky holds the majority of the NFL’s linear TV broadcast rights in the UK.

Earlier in November, Prime Video Europe added Michael Edelston to its media rights team.
