The Spanish soccer federation (RFEF) has hired former Real Madrid executive Ramón Plaza Bautista to head up its commercial operations.
As the federation's commercial director, he will lead the governing body’s new commercial and business development department.

Bautista will be tasked with securing new sponsors for the Spanish national teams and domestic cup competitions – the men’s Copa del Rey and women’s Copa de la Reina.
The RFEF stated that it wants to “present Spanish football to new channels of commercial relations.”
Bautista said: “We are going to be an even more active part of the football business, having a greater presence in forums, professional meetings and international events etc…
“The objective must be to make all the assets that form part of the Royal Spanish Football Federation better known. In this new stage we are going to go out into the market to be closer to our clients.”

He also had stints at the Adecco Group, the international human resources provider, and sports and entertainment agency You First Sports, where he worked in sponsorship sales, events organisation, and hospitality as sales manager.
The RFEF has undergone a period of significant change within its senior leadership team over the past year.
In April, Pedro Rocha was elected as the federation’s new president to replace Luis Rubiales who resigned last September for forcibly kissing Spanish player Jenni Hermoso.
Rocha was elected despite being under investigation as part of an ongoing corruption case into the deal to take the Spanish Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
Despite a year of turmoil at the RFEF, the Spanish national team has enjoyed success on the pitch by winning the Women’s World Cup, the UEFA European Championship, and a gold medal in the men’s team Olympic soccer tournament.
