US national network NBC Sports has retained rights to air top events organized by athletics’ domestic governing body USA Track and Field (USATF) after renewing its deal for another four years.

The multi-year extension will see NBC Sports continue its coverage of the USATF’s premier events on its linear channels and streaming platform Peacock, including the USATF Indoor and Outdoor championships, as well as invitational events the Prefontaine Classic and Millrose Games until the end of 2028 – the year the US hosts the summer Olympic Games.

USATF chief executive Max Siegel said: “Over the years, NBC has consistently delivered world-class coverage which showcases the talent, dedication and passion that make our sport so special.

“Extending this partnership through 2028 will be key in deepening our connections with fans as we eagerly look ahead to the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.”

Comcast-owned NBCUniversal (NBCU), the parent company of NBC Sports, is the domestic rights holder for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles (LA28) as part of its $3 billion deal with the International Olympic Committee to show all editions through 2036, which was signed last week.

Under that deal, NBCU also holds all-platform rights to the 2034 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and the 2036 summer Olympics, which is currently unallocated.

NBC Sports additionally holds US rights to World Athletics’ Indoor and Outdoor Championships, World Athletics Relays, and World Cross Country Championships. It will also show the 2028 US Olympic Trials in the run up to LA28.

Team USA Track & Field is a dominant force within world athletics, having earned 34 medals—14 of them gold—at the 2024 Paris Olympics, the most of any country. It was also the ninth consecutive Olympics that the US won the track and field medal count, with the most medals earned since the 1984 Los Angeles games, when they earned 40.
