Elite motorcycle racing series MotoGP has doubled down on its commitment to the Spanish market after renewing its contract with the Ricardo Tormo Circuit in Valencia until 2031.
The Valencia Grand Prix has been a permanent fixture on the MotoGP calendar in 1999 and traditionally acts as the season-ending race, with the circuit’s current deal with Dorna Sports due to end after the 2026 season.
The new five-year extension, which begins with the 2027 campaign, will see it continue for at least the next six years.
Carlos Mazón, president of regional government Generalitat Valenciana, has said: “This renewal comes in a context of greater competitiveness than ever, and we were always convinced that we had the winning card.
“I also don't want to fail to mention the economic impact MotoGP has, and when we are working on recovery – not only emotional recovery, but economic recovery.”
The deal comes months after the Valencia region was hit by deadly floods, which arrived just weeks before MotoGP was due to stage its season-ending race. The race was ultimately canceled, with the season finale moved to fellow Spanish city Barcelona and renamed the Solidarity Grand Prix in tribute to those affected by the disaster.
The 2025 Valencia Grand Prix will resume its position as the season-ending race on November 16, with those who bought tickets for last year’s race able to use them this season.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive of Dorna Sports, said: “The track is unique with the view it offers to the spectators, and the fans make it unique for us with the incredible atmosphere they create.
“After what happened in 2024, we hope our return for another five Grands Prix underlines our longer-term commitment to Valencia too.”
The renewal comes shortly after Dorna Sports signed a new contract to continue staging another Spanish race, the Catalan Grand Prix, at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, also through 2031.
The two Spanish deals come after Dorna Sports made a long-term commitment to the sport, securing an unprecedented MotoGP rights renewal through 2060 back in September 2024.
In December Dorna Sports chief commercial officer Dan Rossomondo spoke to Sportcal (GlobalData Sport) explaining: “You can't decouple our company from the sport, they're the same. And, all of our employees are huge fans of the sport, they want to invest their time in it, they want to invest their hard work in it, and we want to invest financially in it.
“Knowing that we have such a long runway, just allows us to have a long-term view of things. It allows us to know that we're going to be in this business and to think about, with a long-term view, what the sport should look like going forward.”
In terms of future races, MotoGP is set to return to Brazil next year for the first time since 2004, after Dorna Sports struck a new five-year deal with the Brasil Motorsport body and the local government of Brazil’s Goias region to stage annual races in the country.
Beginning in 2026, the Goiânia International Racetrack Ayrton Senna will put on races through the 2030 campaign.
