India is to remain on motorcycling's MotoGP calendar until at least 2027 after a new hosting contract was agreed between the government of Indian region Uttar Pradesh and Dorna Sports, the series owner.

The deal will see MotoGP return to the Buddh International Circuit for the next three seasons.

The contract was signed with Invest UP, the government of Uttar Pradesh’s agency that facilitates international investment into the state.

As part of the agreement, the Grand Prix of India will return to the MotoGP calendar in 2025 after this year’s edition – scheduled for September – was postponed by the organizers in May “due to operational considerations.”

The race at Buddh International Circuit outside the Indian capital Delhi made its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2023.

The inaugural grand prix at Buddh attracted more than 100,000 fans as MotoGP raced in the country for the first time.

Carmelo Ezpeleta, chief executive of Dorna Sports, said: “The inaugural Indian Grand Prix was a key success and brought an enormous amount of value to both MotoGP and our host region of Uttar Pradesh.

“India is an essential market for MotoGP, with a healthy, established audience for the racing, and one we know we can increase exponentially.”

Last month, MotoGP also extended its hosting contract in Austria with the Red Bull Ring at Spielberg until at least 2030, while the TT Circuit Assen venue in the Netherlands also recently renewed its contract for another five years until 2031.
