Global logistics firm DHL has extended its association with the British and Irish Lions rugby union touring side to cover this year’s tour of Australia.
DHL – which has been a Lions partner since 2005 – will act as the official logistics partner for the team’s three-test tour of Australia across July and August.
As was the case during the 2021 tour of South Africa (the Lions tour each of Australia, South Africa, and New Zealand, once every 12 years), players’ shirts will have the DHL logo on their backs.
GlobalData Sport valued the DHL-Lions tie-up for the 2021 series at $4 million.
As logistics partner, DHL will be responsible for the transportation of the team’s equipment throughout the tour, including scrum machines and other training gear.
In terms of the Lions’ partner line-up for this year’s tour, brands on board include Qatar Airways as title sponsor, as well as Charles Tyrwhitt, Howden, Canterbury, and Fanatics.

By GlobalDataIn early 2023, the Lions (made up of players from England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland) and Rugby Australia launched a joint venture to combine their respective commercial offerings for the tour and brought in CSM as its exclusive sponsorship agent.
John Pearson, CEO at DHL Express, added: “Rugby plays a key role in our extensive sponsorship portfolio, and over the years … our brand has become synonymous with rugby on a global level, with longstanding partnerships with the likes of Harlequins, Munster, DHL Super Rugby Pacific and European Professional Club Rugby Champions Cup and Challenge Cup.”
As well as the rugby tie-ups mentioned by Pearson, DHL has commercial agreements with the likes of English soccer giants Manchester United, and motor racing's top-tier Formula 1 series.
The first test of the Lions’ tour of Australia will take place on July 19, at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium. Melbourne Cricket Ground will host the second test on July 26, while the final test will be played at Sydney’s Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park on August 2.
