Heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua has become the latest high-profile athlete to invest in the sport of padel after he was announced as the co-owner of the AD/vantage team from Spain’s Hexagon Cup competition.

Joshua joins prominent retired tennis player Andy Murray as the second major athlete co-owner of AD/vantage, which won both the men’s and women’s competitions at the inaugural Hexagon Cup in 2024.

Other owners of the team include businessman Arran Yentob, and Murray’s former tennis coach Daniel Vallverdú.

Speaking on Joshua’s entry into the sport, Yentob stated: “His experience can help us build on our recent success on the professional side, and together with Andy, Dani, and the rest of team AD/vantage, to further unlock the sport's potential and bring a new set of players to the court.”

Other high-profile Hexagon Cup team owners and investors include soccer stars Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi (KRÜ Padel), and Robert Lewandowski (RL9 Padel team), motor racing’s Pierre Gasly (10 Padel), and tennis great Rafael Nadal (Rafa Nadal Academy).

The second edition of the Hexagon Cup will take place in Madrid, Spain, from January 29 to February 2.

For its second edition, French sports car manufacturer Alpine has been named as the title sponsor in a renewed and expanded deal.

Alpine returns as a sponsor of the tournament, now the Alpine Hexagon Cup, for the second consecutive year, and will again have its logo featured on the nets and sides of the main courts, while the Alpine A110 and A290 vehicle models will be on display during the tournament in the Madrid Arena.

The Hexagon Cup has secured several sponsors for its second season, including a recent extension with padel court manufacturer Portico Sport and a new partnership with Spanish department store chain El Corte Inglés.

In September, German sportswear heavyweight Adidas was unveiled as the competition’s official racket and bag sponsor, while Babolat, the French tennis equipment manufacturer, was secured as the official footwear and sport apparel of the tournament.

Meanwhile, the Hexagon Cup renewed its global broadcast deal with major OTT platform DAZN.

The event is described as padel’s first World Cup for private teams. It features men’s and women’s players competing in teams for an equal prize fund of €1 million ($1.08 million).
