The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) governing body has launched a new streaming platform as it looks to give fans greater access to its tournaments in territories with no rightsholder.
IIHF.TV will become home to around 600 ice hockey games per season, from the top-tier men’s and women’s World Championships to all lower-division tournaments and youth competitions.
The content will be made available via a subscription model when there is no rightsholder in the respective territory.
IIHF president Luc Tardif said: “IIHF.TV will also make our sport known in regions where it is not traditionally present, guaranteeing it greater visibility and globality.
“This vision of ice hockey extending its reach everywhere in the world fits perfectly with the IIHF's ICE 26 strategy.”
The platform will be overseen by international sports marketing agency Infront, the IIHF’s exclusive media and marketing partner, while Sportway Media Group, the sports video and data company, will cover production for lower division tournaments.
The long-running exclusive media and marketing rights deal between Infront and the Swiss-based IIHF runs until 2034, though an extension struck in 2019.
Amikam Kranz, Infront’s senior vice president of media, betting, and technology, said: “The launch of IIHF.TV marks a new opportunity for international ice hockey to grow and welcome new fans on a global scale with a digital home of hockey.
“Easily accessible content, live and on-demand streaming, and flexible subscriptions will help us to reach untapped audiences.”
Live coverage on the platform will start today (April 7) with the 2025 Women’s World Championship Division II, Group A, followed by the 2025 Women’s World Championship on Wednesday.
The next two editions of the annual IHHF World Championship will be held in Sweden and Denmark (2025) and Switzerland (2026).
