Content creation platform Greenfly has signed an expanded multi-year, league-wide deal with German soccer’s DFL body.
Through the renewed tie-up, Greenfly will continue powering the flow of digital media assets across the league’s content ecosystem.
Greenfly enables the real-time content captured during top-flight Bundesliga and second-tier 2. Bundesliga matches to be distributed via the DFL’s Social Media Matchday Feed (SMMF).
The content is captured by social media reporters, provided by each Bundesliga club, and allows global media partners, viewers and fans to access exclusive matchday content.
This allows more than 60 DFL media partners to integrate this content into their Bundesliga broadcasts.
The DFL and 2. Bundesliga clubs will expand their use of Greenfly to capture and distribute exclusive, behind-the-scenes content to broadcasters for select “top tier” matches.
The league body will capture “all-access” content of club and player arrivals, following athletes from the bus through the locker room and onto the pitch as part of pre-match coverage.
The DFL was one of the first leagues to use Greenfly’s technology league-wide to deliver match-day content to more than 60 media partners – a relationship that began in 2020.
Over the course of their existing partnership, more than a thousand Bundesliga matches have been accompanied by a SMMF reporter, capturing behind-the-scenes club-specific content for wide distribution.
Dennis Galejski, head of product management at the DFL, said: “We look forward to our continued collaboration with Greenfly and the innovations that will come from the power of this collaboration.
“By bringing our perspectives together, we create products that are not only good, but can shape the future of sports media production.”
Gabby Vidal Castillo, Greenfly senior sports partnership manager of EMEA, added: “This deal underscores the importance of leveraging short-form content to connect and engage with fans, not only through social media but via broadcast.
“The DFL has set a high standard for innovation in sports media production and we’re excited to work alongside them to elevate how their players interact with fans globally, strengthening both their personal brands and the league’s reach.”
California-based Greenfly has similar deals with other major sports leagues including basketball’s NBA, ice hockey’s NHL, and Major League Baseball. Greenfly’s platform is also used by rugby union’s Six Nations and SailGP.
The firm works to collect, organize, and distribute short-form content in real-time to athletes, staff, broadcasters, and sponsors.
