Genius Sports, the international sports data technology company, has significantly expanded its multi-faceted deal with the Argentine Football Association.
Genius has added live streaming rights across all 13 AFA-run competitions to the initial deal, an integrity-related contract signed in 2019, and renewed late last year following significant changes to the structure of professional soccer in the South American country.
With immediate effect, Genius becomes the exclusive data and streaming partner for all domestic competitions organised by the AFA.
This includes not only the four divisions from the men’s Professional Soccer League structure, which replaced the Superliga last year, but also domestic cup competitions, and rights across the men’s and women’s national teams.
The original deal between Genius and the AFA simply covered betting data rights and integrity services.
Genius will install cameras equipped with its GeniusLive technology at over 100 venues, providing high-quality broadcast streams that will support the AFA’s own over-the-top streaming platform.

By GlobalDataStarting with the upcoming 2021 season, Genius will work alongside Pixellot, and Argentine company La Corte on the production of all games, meaning the AFA will be able to stream over 2,000 games per season from eight leagues and competitions.
Genius has been granted official data distribution rights for media across the 13 competitions, “enabling brands, publishers and advertisers to exploit its suite of personalised advertising, content and fan-messaging solutions".
Genius will also have exclusive rights to capture and distribute data and video broadcasts to sportsbooks around the world from over 3,300 games each season, encompassing the entire professional soccer structure in Argentina.
Mark Locke, chief executive officer at Genius, said: “The Argentine Football Association is one of the most respected and prestigious organisations in world soccer. Being selected by them for such a vital partnership that combines our expertise across live data, streaming, production and media is a huge honour.”
Claudio Tapia, the AFA’s president, added: “We are convinced that this partnership will be critical to expanding the visibility of Argentine soccer across the world and also opens up a range of new commercial possibilities. One of AFA’s key objectives is to generate new revenue streams by unlocking the value of its digital assets through new strategic partnerships.”
Genius’ portfolio of Argentine sport has grown significantly in the last 12 months, and now covers partnerships with the ADC, the governing body of professional basketball in the country, as well as with the FMV, which oversees top volleyball competitions.
The technology firm also has deals in place with the top soccer leagues in Peru, Colombia, Mexico and Costa Rica.
