The Alliance of Independent Recognised Members of Sport (AIMS), has re-elected Stephan Fox as its president for the next four years.
Fox, 59, who has been at the helm of AIMS since 2015, was re-elected after being voted back in unopposed at the body’s general assembly (virtually) yesterday and has now secured a second term leading the organisation, which serves as an umbrella body for sports searching for eventual mainstream and Olympic recognition.
Fox, from Germany, said in his acceptance speech: “It is the aim of every sport to get recognised by AIMS and it is the aim of every sport to leave AMS again toward IOC recognition.”
Over the last 12 months, six sporting entities have received full recognition from the International Olympic Committee after passing through their graduate membership of AIMS: World Lacrosse, International Sambo Federation, International Cheer Union, International Federation Icestocksport, World Association of Kickboxing Organisations and International Federation of Muaythai Associations.
AIMS itself, which was founded in 2009, received full IOC recognition in January 2020.
AIMS works alongside both the IOC and the Global Association of International Sports Federations (GAISF), to ensure growing sporting bodies and federations are as well prepared as possible to make the leap towards full, official, recognition.
