Concacaf, soccer’s governing body across North and Central America and the Caribbean, will launch a new women’s club competition in 2024.
Plans to create the new competition, announced yesterday (April 26), were discussed and agreed by the Concacaf Council and represent a key part of its women’s soccer strategy, which was launched in 2019.
The confederation said the move is in line with FIFA’s plan to develop a Women’s Club World Cup, which was announced by the global governing body in December 2022.
The new Concacaf women’s club competition will include teams from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. It will be the sole qualification route for Concacaf clubs to the Women’s Club World Cup.
Concacaf has said format and further details will be “determined and communicated later this year, once the confederation has received further information regarding the format and slot allocation for the new FIFA Women’s Club World Cup and has held further discussions with stakeholders.”
The launch follows an entire revamp of Concacaf’s women’s national team calendar for the 2021-24 period, which includes more than double the number of official matches across the region compared with the previous cycle of competitions.

By GlobalDataConcacaf’s new women’s national team competitions include the Concacaf W Qualifiers and W Championship, as well as the upcoming Road to W Gold Cup qualifiers and the inaugural Concacaf W Gold Cup which is scheduled for February and March 2024.
The qualifying stage for the W Gold Cup, in which 33 teams in total will compete, will begin in September this year, after the FIFA Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
The process will be split into three leagues – of nine, 12, and 12 teams.
Victor Montagliani, Concacaf president and FIFA vice president, said: “The ongoing growth and development of women’s football is a major priority for Concacaf.
“Since we launched our Concacaf W strategy in 2019, we have enhanced our women’s national team calendar and delivered tremendous competitions which are driving development across the region.
“The next phase of our strategy is to focus on a women’s club platform and, while there remains work to be done on the detail, this is a very important step towards the launch of an exciting new competition next year.”
