Dorna Sports, the promoter of MotoGP, the elite tier of motorcycle racing, has announced a new five-year deal with the Brasil Motorsport body and the local government of Brazil’s Goiás region that will see races staged annually in the country.
From the 2026 MotoGP campaign onwards the Goiânia International Racetrack Ayrton Senna will put on races, through the 2030 campaign.
This marks the return of elite motorcycle racing to Brazil for the first time since 2004, and to the Goiânia International Racetrack for the first time since 1989.
The Goiânia International Racetrack hosted MotoGP races between 1987 and 1989, before it fell out of the series’ calendar.
Another Brazilian Motorcycle GP was staged at Sao Paulo’s Interlagos circuit in 1992, but only once.
From 1995 a new race, under the moniker of the Rio de Janeiro motorcycle Grand Prix, took place annually at the Jacarepaguá circuit through to 2004, after which Brazil once again fell off the MotoGP calendar.
