
Spanish soccer’s Copa del Rey final was the most-watched broadcast of the year in Spain as Barcelona secured a dramatic victory over rivals Real Madrid.
The Catalan giants’ 3-2 extra-time win against Real Madrid on Saturday (April 26) was watched by an average viewership of around 8.8 million on La 1, the RTVE-owned Spanish free-to-air television channel, and pay-TV network Movistar Plus.
The match achieved an audience share of 59.8%.
Viewership increased to 9.4 million in extra time (68.4% share) and peaked at 13.3 million, making it the most-watched broadcast of the year in the country.
The ‘El Clasico’ final was the first between Barcelona and Real Madrid since 2014, with the win securing Barcelona's 32nd domestic cup trophy.
The bitter rivals are also in a two-way battle for the domestic LaLiga title and will meet again in a key league encounter on May 11. Barcelona is currently four points ahead of Real Madrid at the top.
