Spanish soccer club Atletico Madrid has announced a long-term extension to its sponsorship deal with global sportswear giant Nike until 2035.
Under the deal, Nike will continue to supply the matchday and training kits for both the men’s and women’s teams well beyond its current contract with the club, which is set to run until 2026.
The extension will make Nike Atletico's longest commercial partner at the end of the contract, with the collaboration lasting more than 30 years.
The partnership between Atletico and Nike first began in 2001 when the club was in the Spanish second-tier Segunda Division.
Since 2001, Atletico has won 16 titles, including two LaLiga victories for the men’s team in 2013-14 and 202-21 and three league championships with the women’s team. It has also qualified for all of the last 12 editions of European soccer’s top-tier Champions League.
Before Nike, Atletico Madrid had a three-year deal in place with Reebok between 1995 and 1998 and a 12-year partnership with Puma during the 1980s.
Atletico is Nike’s third biggest partnership in soccer, with the sportswear giant also having deals with fellow Spanish outfit FC Barcelona and France’s Paris Saint-Germain.
The deal comes as Atletico shores up its commercial partnerships after expanding its deals with Google Cloud and Mahou San Miguel last month.
In January, the club brought in online trading platform Hantec Markets as a new regional commercial partner in Latin America and expanded its partnership with energy drinks giant Red Bull.
The club’s biggest deal during the current 2024-25 season came in the form of a major sponsorship agreement with nascent Saudi Arabian flag carrier Riyadh Air, which replaced Civitas as the new title sponsor of the club’s Metropolitano stadium.
Riyadh Air has also been the team’s front-of-shirt sponsor since August 2023.
Meanwhile, French soccer club AS Monaco has announced Japanese sportswear brand Mizuno as its official kit supplier for the next five years.
Mizuno takes over from Italian brand Kappa and will supply the match and training kits for the top-tier Ligue 1 side from the 2025-26 season.
Along with kits, Mizuno will also offer fans a product collection along with lifestyle ranges and exclusive creations that reflect the club’s identity. The new collections will be distributed through Mizuno’s international retail network.
The new contract expands Mizuno’s presence in European soccer, having a deal already in place with VFL Bochum of Germany’s Bundesliga and SS Lazio of Italy’s Serie A.
