The Mexican arm of global e-commerce giant Amazon has agreed a new wide-ranging sponsorship with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) soccer governing body covering its three main brands.
Amazon will sponsor the Mexican men’s and women’s national teams, as well as the country’s top-flight men’s and women’s competitions, known as the Liga BBVA MX and Liga BBVA MX Femenil, respectively.
Amazon branding will appear on Mexican national team training kits, on communication materials around the national team, and in-stadium at Mexican national team games.
The sponsorship will take effect through a wide array of activations, including Amazon serving as the official store of the men’s and women’s national teams and the two leagues, selling items related to the sports properties on its store front.
This will extend to the Amazon Prime service, members of which will receive exclusive benefits related to the sports properties including access to meet-and-greets and match tickets, as well as the Amazon Music streaming service which will host original songs honoring the collaboration.
On a technical level, the FMF will now utilize the Amazon Web Services digital infrastructure platform to enhance its online offering with a host of solutions including generative AI use for real-time statistics, and remote match streaming.
Amazon has also expanded the number of Liga MX games available on its Prime Video OTT streaming service.
Speaking on the wide-ranging partnership, which coincides with the 10th anniversary of Amazon’s entry into the market, Amazon’s country manager for Mexico Pedro Huerta stated: “As part of this project, we're making an effort to provide all our customers and soccer fans with various benefits so they can experience national soccer to the fullest. Our passion for our customers, as well as the passion our athletes and fans have for soccer, is the driving force behind something as special as this new collaboration we're presenting today."
FMF interim commissioner Mikel Arriola added: “Today we have a partner with whom I'm sure we'll celebrate for many years, with whom I'm sure we'll generate a lot of substance, a lot of innovation that will translate into us being able to deliver a better product, a more international product.
“It's a privilege that Mexican soccer can boast, before other leagues and national teams, that it has a global company like Amazon as an ally, and our beneficiaries will always be the fans of Mexican soccer."
