The UIPM, the international governing body for modern pentathlon, has initiated a tender process to find a broadcast production and distribution partner for a cycle of major UIPM events between 2022 and 2024.
The chosen provider will be in charge of “providing the production and distribution of a signal to TV channels and digital stakeholders [and will also]… need to produce highlights shows, social media clips as well as any other edits as required during events and outside of events", the governing body has said.

The period in question will cover the 2022 through 2024 UIPM seasons, with a total of up to eight major events per year. The contract will focus on delivering coverage of modern pentathlon for events leading up to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where the sport will once again be involved.
Bidders must submit their proposals by 17 September, with the governing body to meet all interested bidders by 1 October, and the successful firm to be notified by 7 October.
The contract is then set to start on 1 November, with the 2022 UIPM season scheduled to begin in March. The contract will last until 31 December 2024, although the UIPM has said that 2022 is only a trial year and that it reserves the right to terminate the contract during that time, as well as at the end of every year during the contract.
When submitting proposals, interested parties should include several options for their production styles: full production with equipment and manpower; full production with their own manpower but local equipment; and production with key support staff but using a local host broadcaster.

Andrejus Zadneprovskis, executive board member for media at the UIPM, added: “Our sport continues to evolve, improving the viewer experience for all audiences across TV and online, and in Paris we will raise the bar again.”
The UIPM has said that “it is crucial that the partner understands its important role in developing UIPM’s awareness to the widest audience through producing exciting programmes relevant to the targeted audiences.
In terms of distribution, the media partner selected will be in charge of sending the telecast to TV channels, over-the-top streaming outlets, news outlets, and the UIPM’s own platforms.
The UIPM has said that sub-contracted distribution services to a third party will be also acceptable.

Earlier this month, the UIPM named the hosts for top-tier Pentathlon World Cup events from 2022 to 2024 inclusive.
At a meeting of the UIPM executive board at the Olympic Games in Tokyo, it was decided that Cairo in Egypt, Budapest in Hungary and Albena in Bulgaria will host World Cups in all three years, while Ankara in Turkey will stage an event in 2022 and Nur-Sultan in Kazakhstan will have the honour in 2023 and 2024.
Meanwhile, Lignano in Italy was awarded next year’s Youth World Championships, which will comprise competitions for under-19s and under-17s.
