The San Antonio Spurs set a new attendance record in North American basketball’s NBA as a crowd of more than 68,000 watched their regular season clash with the Golden State Warriors on Friday night (January 13).
The franchise, celebrating their 50th anniversary season, returned to their former home at the Alamodome for the game and welcomed a total of 68,323 fans in the arena as the Warriors ran out 144-113 winners.

It shattered the previous record of 62,046 who watched the Chicago Bulls play the Atlanta Hawks at the Georgia Dome in March 1998.
The Spurs currently play their home games at the AT&T Center but returned to the Alamodome as part of their anniversary celebration.
The Texas-based franchise started at the HemisFair Arena in 1973 before moving to the Alamodome in 1993. The Spurs played there until 2002 before moving to the AT&T Center.
The team won their first NBA championship in 1999 while playing in the Alamodome. The arena also hosted the 1996 NBA All-Star Game.
