IMG, the heavyweight sports market agency, has extended its agreement to broadcast the Australian Open tennis grand slam on Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra, its in-flight and on-ship entertainment service, through to 2027.
The deal, which was originally signed in 2012, sees Sport 24 continuing to broadcast over 150 hours of live coverage of the tournament to airlines and cruise ships globally.
As part of the renewal, the channel will also broadcast original programming related to the Australian Open throughout the year.
Richard Wise, senior vice president of content and channels at IMG, added: “Sport 24 has been bringing passengers live coverage of the Australian Open for over 12 years and we’re delighted to extend our relationship.”
Sport 24 can be viewed on 612 aircrafts and 127 cruise ships, which include Etihad Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Carnival Group, Royal Caribbean, Celebrity, Norwegian Cruise Line, and Fred Olsen.
Sport 24 and Sport 24 Extra are produced from IMG’s production HQ at Stockley Park.
The platform also has live broadcast deals with English soccer's Premier League, motor racing's Formula 1 World Championship, NBA basketball, golf’s majors, and the four tennis grand slams.
