RTVE, the Spanish public-service broadcaster, has secured free-to-air rights to show the national team’s basketball matches until 2025 after agreeing a new deal with Fiba, the sport’s international governing body.
The broadcaster’s contract will begin in 2022 and include rights to show all the matches of the Spanish men’s and women’s teams during the period.
RTVE will replace commercial broadcaster Mediaset which previously held national team rights in Spain.
The cycle will include major tournaments such as the 2022 Women's World Cup and the men’s edition in 2023. It will also feature several EuroBasket tournaments, with the men’s in 2025 and women’s in 2023 and 2025.
The men’s delayed 2021 EuroBasket, which will be played next year, will be shown by Mediaset as it was part of its previous contract.
RTVE will also air Spain’s pre-Olympic qualifiers with all matches to be shown through its free-to-air Teledeporte sports channel and RTVE Play service.
