L’Equipe, the French digital sports broadcaster, has secured exclusive free-to-air rights in France to four alpine races from the Ski World Cup annually until the end of the 2025-26 season.
As well as the four individual races, which will be held each December, the rights also include the Alpine Skiing World Championships in Austria in 2025.
The arrangements, covering the quartet of annual races in Val d’Isere, in the French Alps, were struck by L’Equipe with the FIS, skiing’s international governing body.
The channel has also secured extended rights to cover the Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding World Cup (excluding editions from Austria), again until the end of 2025-26. These events add up to around 100 each year.
Laurent Prud’homme, group chief executive at L’Equipe, said: "With this acquisition, the L'Équipe group is continuing its commitment to winter sports … These premium rights complement our already rich offer of biathlon, freestyle skiing, bobsleigh and skeleton competitions. From November to the end of March, the L'Équipe channel becomes the channel for all winter sports."
Last week, L’Equipe acquired a package of domestic rights for the EuroLeague, basketball’s elite European clubs' competition, for the remainder of the season.
