Spanish soccer’s top-tier LaLiga has partnered with content production and distribution company Banijay Iberia to launch a new production arm.

LaLiga Studios will create content for the league's clubs, sponsors, and brands, as well as work with international platforms and brands in the development, production, and distribution of entertainment, documentary, fiction, and animation content.

Chalo Bonifacino Cooke, the former director and executive producer of production company Lee Films, has been appointed managing director and executive producer of LaLiga Studios and will oversee plans for international growth.

Oscar Mayo, executive director of LaLiga, said: “We have ambitious plans for LaLiga Studios, we want to work with the best brands and for this we need to have the best partner. Going onto the market with the guarantee of the quality and experience of Banijay Iberia is for us the best of beginnings.”

LaLiga already creates content for its direct-to-consumer platform LaLigaTV but will use the new entity to become a global benchmark in sports content creation for its partners and stakeholders.

LaLigaTV, which launched in October 2019, offers access to all live matches from the Spanish league, more than 25 hours a week of live studio programming, and exclusive interviewers, with content, also available on-demand.

Pilar Blasco, chief executive of Banijay Iberia, said: “We are very proud to announce this partnership with LaLiga; a great generator of narratives around sport and its values.

“We are eager to use our experience in the production and creation of premium content to tell stories, with the highest quality standards, so they become known all over the world.”
