The high-profile Serie A clash between Italian soccer rivals Inter Milan and Juventus on Sunday (February 4) was the most-watched match ever on streaming service DAZN in the country.
Inter’s 1-0 win at San Siro was watched by 2.27 million viewers, with the full portfolio of Sunday matches recording almost 6.6 million in total.
The figures were compiled under the Auditel Total Audience system.
The next highest viewership on the day was for the match between Frosinone and AC Milan, which had 922,698 viewers.
The lowest viewership of the day, meanwhile, belonged to Empoli and Genoa’s 0-0 draw, which had 81,348 viewers.
The Inter-Juventus match was broadcast exclusively on DAZN, with Inter winning to go four points clear of their rivals.
Under the previous Nielsen measurement system, two other Italian soccer matches had achieved higher viewership.
Inter are on course to win their 20th Serie A title.
DAZN recently retained domestic media rights to the Italian top-flight for the next five seasons alongside incumbent rightsholder Sky Italia.
The new deals, running through 2029, are worth at least €4.5 billion ($4.8 billion) in total, equating to €900 million per season. This is a small drop from the current fees paid by Sky and DAZN, however, which come to €930 million annually.
