The Formula E all-electric motor racing series will return to free-to-air television in the UK and Ireland with commercial broadcaster ITV picking up rights for the 2024-25 season.

Through the agreement, announced today, all 16 E-Prix and qualifying sessions for season 11 of the Formula E World Championship will be shown live on the ITVX streaming platform, while nine races will air live on the ITV4 linear channel.

The commercial network will also air a new highlights show after each race weekend.

ITV will share rights in the UK and Ireland with pay-TV broadcaster TNT Sports, which also provides coverage on the Discovery+ streaming service under a multi-year agreement that began with the 2023-24 season.

The nine live races on ITV4 will include the season-opener in São Paulo on 7 December, as well as races in Miami and Shanghai and the Jeddah, Monaco, and Tokyo double-headers.

The season will conclude in London on 27 July.

The deal sees Formula E action return to ITV after a three-year absence.

The commercial broadcaster last aired Formula E in 2021, when the series was also shown on free-to-air rivals BBC and Channel 4, Eurosport, and BT Sport (before it rebranded to TNT Sports).

Channel 4 took on the exclusive free-to-air rights for 2022 and 2023, but the deal was not extended for 2024 despite an option to do so.

Formula E has aired on all four main free-to-air outlets in the UK since its inaugural season in 2014-15 after also featuring on Channel 5.

Aarti Dabas, Formula E chief media officer, said: “We’re delighted to offer UK and Ireland fans even greater access to our incredible championship via our two fantastic media partners – TNT Sport and now ITV – giving them more ways to watch and taking them even closer to the sport.

“With our new post-race weekend highlights show on ITV, fans will be able to get bespoke content directly from the paddock helping educate, excite, and entertain new and loyal fans alike. We can’t wait to bring our fans more track-side action and continue to grow the sport.”

Richard Botchway, assistant commissioner at ITV Sport, added: “This new deal brings Formula E fans some of the biggest races across season 11 of the Formula E World Championship. We are delighted to be the free-to-air partner and look forward to welcoming Formula E to ITV and ITVX.”
