FIFA, soccer’s world governing body, is launching a new digital collectible platform that will allow fans to own moments from iconic games as non-fungible tokens (NFTs), as well as art and imagery from the men’s and women’s World Cups.
The FIFA+ Collect offering has been created in partnership with cryptocurrency platform Algorand and will be accessible on the FIFA+ streaming service, which provides access to live matches, interactive games, news, tournament information, and original content.
Launching later this month, FIFA+ Collect will release a range of initial collections and details of upcoming exclusive and limited-edition collections to be released soon.
The digital collectibles platform will be available across all online and mobile devices and in three language editions (English, French, and Spanish), with several additional languages to follow.
FIFA+ Collect is powered by technology from Algorand, the official blockchain platform of FIFA. It is described as a “low-cost, carbon-neutral blockchain accessible via multiple currencies and payment methods.”
In May, FIFA named Algorand as a sponsor for the upcoming 2022 men’s World Cup in Qatar, and the women’s edition in Australia and New Zealand next year, as it looks to develop a digital assets strategy.
