International over-the-top streaming service DAZN has announced a new deal with international basketball governing body FIBA to globally distribute its Courtside 1891 streaming product.
The deal, agreed in collaboration with sports agency Two Circles, will see Courtside 1891 broadcast as a standalone offering on DAZN’s platform unconnected to the remainder of DAZN’s sports offering, with content available at both the free and paid access levels.
The service, which is focused on FIBA national team basketball as opposed to a specific club-centric offering, features matches from FIBA international competitions such as its men’s and women’s World Cups and relevant qualifiers, FIBA men’s and women’s Continental cups, and FIBA men’s and women’s Youth World Cups.
The service will, however, still have a significant number of FIBA club-level competitions available for viewers also, most notably its Basketball Champions League pan-European competition, and the women’s category of the continental EuroLeague competition.
This is the latest move to strengthen ties between FIBA and DAZN, which since 2016 has been a joint venture partner of FIBA in the FIBA Media business in charge of distributing FIBA’s media rights. The role of the Two Circles agency, which is a joint venture partner with FIBA in Courtside 1891.
Frank Leenders, FIBA Media and marketing services director general, stated of the announcement: “FIBA is very pleased to announce this partnership with DAZN, which represents an important extension of the distribution and visibility of FIBA’s major events through the Courtside 1891 product. Furthermore, this addition to the already expansive partnership between FIBA and DAZN is an example of the synergies we have achieved together.”

The addition of Courtside 1891 indicates a willingness from DAZN to move further towards hosting other sports’ own services on its platform as a way of expanding its content library and attracting more subscribers.
DAZN chief executive Shay Segev stated of the deal: “DAZN already has a strong portfolio of basketball on our platform. Basketball is the third most watched sport on DAZN and we have big ambitions to become a primary destination for fans of the sport across the world. We have had a long and collaborative relationship with FIBA, and I look forward to working ever more closely with them and other partners to bring this premium action to basketball fans.”
DAZN holds the rights to North America’s top-tier NBA competition in Germany and Belgium, it’s women’s counterpart WNBA in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, and basketball’s men’s Euroleague in Italy, among other prominent competition rights.
