The organizers of the global action sports events series, X Games, have agreed a multi-year global broadcasting partnership with international sports-focused OTT streaming service DAZN.

X Games’ summer competition, Ventura, taking place from 28-30 June, will be aired globally on DAZN for all registered users on their free ad-supported channels and will include live events, archive coverage, as well as short and long-form content. This non-exclusive deal between the two parties, ensuring free coverage of the action sport series, was unveiled yesterday (June 26).

First held in 1995, the X Games franchise has spanned events in North America, Europe, South America, and Asia, featuring BMX, skateboard, and motocross, as well as musical acts and cultural events.

This media rights deal will see X Games move from airing on the Disney-owned broadcaster ESPN. The move comes after the international sports broadcaster sold its majority interest in X Games to the private equity firm MSP Sports Capital in 2022.

DAZN has said the deal "represents the shared ambition of DAZN and X Games to reach and engage even bigger audiences worldwide."

In May, DAZN launched 10 new free-to-air channels through the expansion of its partnership with cloud-based broadcast technology firm Amagi.

DAZN recently acquired rights to air the 2024 UIM E1 World Championship as well as the 2024 and 2025 Ironman triathlon on its free tier.

Speaking on the partnership, president and chief operating officer of X Games Scott Guglielmino stated: “This is an important next step as we build toward the launch of our X Games Leagues in 2026. X Games Winter and Summer Leagues will provide fans with year-round opportunities to follow and engage with the world’s premier action sports athletes from host cities around the world.”

DAZN’s chief executive Shay Segev added: “Much like the DAZN platform, X Games is competition rooted in innovation and passion and we are pleased to be playing a significant role in increasing its global popularity.  Fans of these events will be able to access the best action at no cost on DAZN’s platform and we look forward to welcoming them to a new home for action sport.”
