DAZN, the global sports streaming service, has bolstered its broadcast partnership division with the appointment of Charles Ma as head of media rights sales for Asia-Pacific (APAC).
DAZN is looking to grow its distribution business, with the service now involved in several partnerships with rights holders including basketball’s governing body FIBA, Indian cricket’s IPL, and the WTA women’s tennis tour, managing the sales, production, and marketing of their rights.
Under the role, Ma will lead DAZN’s APAC sales team and be responsible for adding new partners to DAZN’s portfolio of rights-holder partners seeking to distribute their rights.
He will also oversee the distribution of rights in the region for several women’s soccer properties DAZN holds global and multi-territory rights to, including the pan-European UEFA Champions League competition, England’s top-tier Women’s Super League, Spain’s LigaF, Germany’s Frauen Bundesliga, and North America’s NWSL.
Ma said: “It’s great to join such a dynamic and growth-focused business as DAZN. I am looking forward to help to grow this element of DAZN’s business.
“It’s an increasingly important function as rights holders look for the best way to monetize their content and reach their fans in meaningful and sustainable ways.”

By GlobalDataAviv Giladi, president of DAZN’s broadcast partnerships division, said: “DAZN is growing in all aspects of its business as right holders recognize our ability to use our technology and network of relationships to deliver exceptional reach, quality, and value.
“Adding people of the caliber of Charles to an already strong central function will add further capabilities, increasing value for sports media rights holders.”
The announcement comes a week after Japanese businessman Kenji Kitatani was announced as the new chair of DAZN’s Japan operations.
Kitatani’s appointment comes hand in hand with the service’s aims to cover everything in sports from event streaming and news to ticketing and merchandising.
