BBC Scotland, the regional arm of the UK free-to-air state broadcaster, has secured the rights to show two international friendly matches contested by the Scottish national soccer team ahead of the UEFA Euro 2024 international tournament.
The broadcaster will air the March 26 fixture between Scotland and Northern Ireland and the June 7 fixture against Finland through a sub-licensing deal with the national team's media rightsholder, Scandinavian OTT service Viaplay.
The two games will be shown live on the main BBC Scotland channel in the country, as well as on the BBC’s tertiary station BBC Three nationwide.
Viaplay holds the rights to all Scottish national team matches, including qualifiers for the European Championships and World Cup from 2024 through 2028.
Scotland will play two friendly fixtures from each international window, with Viaplay retaining the exclusive UK rights to the March 22 game against the Netherlands and the June 3 game against Gibraltar.
Both the games that the BBC has sub-licensed are to be played on Scottish home turf at Glasgow’s Hampden Park stadium, while the two that Viaplay has retained are away fixtures to be played in the countries of their respective opponents.
