Major League Baseball (MLB) has promoted Ed Weber to the position of chief financial officer (CFO).
Weber, previously an executive vice president and deputy CFO at the 30-team North American league, succeeds Bob Starkey.
It was announced yesterday that Starkey, who has been in charge of the body's financial affairs since 2015, will remain with MLB as a senior advisor to Robert Manfred Jr., the league's commissioner for almost a decade.
Weber first joined MLB in 2006, when he became senior vice president and CFO of the MLB Advanced Media division. Before taking that role, he was a senior executive at Sirius Satellite Radio.
Manfred said: “Ed Weber has done outstanding work for our central office, the 30 clubs and partners of our game for nearly two decades. I look forward to Ed’s expanded role with our executive leadership group and his continued impact on all branches of MLB’s operations.”
He added, on Starkey’s move to an advisory role: “Bob has been a great ally to our clubs and our industry in a variety of significant ways. I am delighted that he will remain as a senior advisor.”
In terms of MLB management, the league also promoted Uzma Rawn Dowler to chief marketing officer in late December.
