Italy has been designated as the host nation for men’s tennis' inaugural Davis Cup Final 8 between 2025 and 2027.
Bologna will host next year’s edition of the revamped tournament, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) unveiled yesterday, with Milan and Turin reportedly included as options for 2026 and 2027.
This hosting change comes with Italy having won the last two editions of the Davis Cup in Malaga, Spain, which has staged the final stage of the teams’ competition since 2022. This year's Davis Cup Finals took place between November 19 and 24 in Malaga, with Italy defeating the Netherlands 2-0 in the final.
The ITF revealed its new-look version of the Davis Cup in October (as well as for the women’s equivalent Billie Jean King Cup), getting underway next year.
In 2025, the Davis Cup will move away from the September six-day, round-robin group stage structure it has utilized since 2019, to an abbreviated two-day format featuring seven home and away ties, with the seven winners joining the host country (for the next three years, Italy) in the Final 8 each November.
In terms of significant tennis events in Italy, meanwhile, this adds to the end-of-season men’s ATP Finals, which are held in Turin through a deal expiring after next year’s edition (although Italy as a whole will host the event through 2030). The Rome Masters is also one of the ATP Tour’s premier clay-court events.

By GlobalDataItalian tennis is in a boom period powered by current men’s world number one Jannik Sinner, winner of two grand slams this year, and women’s world number four Jasmine Paolini, a Billie Jean King Cup winner last month (that event also took place in Malaga).
The ITF’s president, David Haggerty, said: “Italy has a rich history in tennis and a proven ability to host world-class sporting events … We are confident that over the next three years working with the FITP we can take the Davis Cup even higher, providing an unforgettable experience for players and fans alike.”
Angelo Binaghi, president of the Italian Tennis Federation, added: “The FITP will build on Italy’s heritage in this competition, working closely with the ITF to deliver a spectacular event for the fans, as well as build an even greater future for tennis’ great global team asset.”
Next year’s first round of Davis Cup qualifiers gets underway in late January and early February.
