European soccer’s UEFA governing body has announced that six national soccer governing bodies have declared interest in the rights to host the 2027 men’s and women’s UEFA Champions league finals.

Bids must be submitted completely by March 19, 2025, with the hosts to be appointed in May next year.

Two parties have expressed interest in hosting the 2027 men’s final, with Azerbaijan’s AFFA governing body putting forward the Baku Olympic Stadium in the capital Baku, while Spain’s RFEF has proposed Madrid’s Metropolitano stadium.

The 2027 final was initially scheduled to be staged at Milan’s San Siro, home of Italian giants AC Milan and Inter, but uncertainty over its renovations forced UEFA recently to strip the venue of hosting rights and seek a new staging ground.

The 69,870-capacity Baku Olympic Stadium is the home of the Azerbaijani national team and club side Qarabag and hosted the 2019 UEFA Europa League Final, as well as four games at the 2020 UEFA European Championships (which took place in 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic).

The 70,460-capacity Metropolitano meanwhile, home of Spanish giants Atletico Madrid, hosted the Champions League final in 2019, and has also hosted Spanish national team fixtures, the final of the 2018 Copa del Rey domestic knockout competition, and matches for Atletico’s women’s side in the Primera Division.

Four governing bodies, meanwhile, have expressed interest in the 2027 Women’s Champions League final, Poland’s PZPN has proposed the National Stadium in Warsaw, the Swiss Football Association has put forward Basel’s St Jakob’s Park, the Welsh FA proposed the Millenium Stadium in Cardiff, whilst the RFEF submitted the Camp Nou in Barcelona.

The Warsaw National Stadium, a 56,826-seater venue, hosted the 2015 men’s Europa League Final, the 2024 UEFA Super Cup, and home Polish national team matches.

St Jakob’s Park, the 38,512-capacity home of Swiss Super League side FC Basel, is a host venue for the 2025 UEFA Women’s European Championships (including the final) and previously hosted fixtures in the men’s Euro 2008, and the 2016 Europa League final.

The Millenium Stadium (73,931-capacity), the home of the Welsh men’s national team, hosted the 2017 UEFA Champions League final and is a host venue for the 2028 men’s European Championships.

FC Barcelona’s Camp Nou, which is undergoing renovations to increase its capacity to 105,000, is one of soccer’s iconic venues, having hosted the Champions League Final on two occasions (1989 and 1999), among many other high-profile fixtures.
