The date for the inaugural Miami Grand Prix of the prestigious Formula 1 motor racing series has been confirmed for Sunday 8 May, 2022, with the full event, including a Friday practice session and Saturday qualifying, beginning on 6 May.
The three-day race weekend will take place at the new Miami International Autodrome, a new, semi-permanent 3.36-mile street circuit around the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, home to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.
The Miami Grand Prix will serve as one of two US rounds in the 2022 calendar, alongside the US Grand Prix in Texas slated for the final quarter of the year.
It was confirmed in April this year that a 10-year agreement for Miami to host F1 races had been reached, and it will be the first time Florida has hosted a Formula 1 event since 1959.
F1's owner Liberty Media has been keen to build on the sport’s presence in the US market since it acquired the racing series in 2017.
Richard Cregan, chief executive of the Miami Grand Prix, said: “The circuit construction is progressing in line with expectations, and now that we have our date confirmed with Formula 1, we can rapidly follow up with revealing more of the detail of the experience that will be enjoyed at the trackside which will make this a truly stand-out addition to the calendar.
