ITTF brings Sinopec on board as major sponsor of Men's World Cup
The International Table Tennis Federation has today announced Sinopec Lubricant Company, the Chinese lubricant brand, as a major sponsor for next month’s Men’s World Cup.
Under the agreement, the company will have brand visibility throughout the three-day tournament in Weihai, China, scheduled for 13 to 15 November.
This is the second major sponsorship deal signed by the ITTF for the World Cup this week after it announced Dishang Group, of China’s largest manufacturers and exporters of apparel, as title sponsor of the tournament.
It marks Sinopec’s latest foray into the sports sponsorship scene having previously served as an official sponsor of the 2008 Beijing Olympics as well as already signing up for the 2022 Winter Olympics in the Chinese capital.
Xu Yi, ITTF’s head of sponsorship in China, said: “Table tennis enjoys a strong audience base in China, and China plays a pivotal role in popularising and promoting table tennis around the world. We have seen an increasing number of Chinese leading enterprises in various fields supporting table tennis, which demonstrates just how bright the future is for our sport, and we are delighted to have Sinopec Lubricant Company on board for the 2020 ITTF Men’s World Cup.”
Both the men’s and women’s World Cups are being held as part of the ITTF’s #RESTART series, which marks the return of international table tennis after several months of suspended activity due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Dishang is also putting its name to the Women's World Cup.
It will be the first time that Weihai will stage the ITTF World Cups.
The Men’s World Cup event was due to take place in Düsseldorf, Germany with the Women’s World Cup event in Bangkok, Thailand, but both were rearranged because of the pandemic.
