World TeamTennis opts for Pivot Agency as marketing partner
World TeamTennis, the professional mixed-gender tennis league based in USA, has entered into a partnership with Pivot Agency, a San Francisco-based sports marketing agency.
Pivot, founded in 2014, becomes the official marketing agency for WTT, for at least the duration of the 2021 season.
The agency has experience of working with other prominent sporting leagues in North America, such as baseball’s MLB, soccer’s MLS and ice hockey's NHL.
It will, the WTT said, “immediately work… to increase sponsorship revenue, while also identifying potential ownership groups for West Coast expansion.”
Carlos Silva, WTT’s chief executive, said: “Pivot Agency has a proven track record of finding blue chip partners for marquee leagues in this country, and they’re the perfect fit for us as we continue to grow World TeamTennis… Coming off our most successful season to date, it’s important to keep the momentum moving forward, and Pivot will help us monetise that momentum.”
WTT, which is contested by teams representing US cities, became the first major professional tennis competition to resume earlier this year following the outbreak of Covid-19.
It was also one of the first events to admit fans since the pandemic struck in spring this year, with 500 spectators admitted per day to watch matches at The Greenbrier in West Virginia.
The tournament, which is traditionally held across various host cities in USA but for the entire 2020 campaign was held exclusively at The Greenbrier, also increased prize money to a record $5 million.
It also received more television and online exposure than ever before this year, as the playoffs aired exclusively on CBS Sports, with the WTT finals on CBS, while both semi-finals aired exclusively on CBS Sports Network, which also showed 13 WTT regular-season matches.
