Five TV deals secured in Asia-Pacific for CEBL Summer Series finale
Mediapro Canada, a unit of the Spanish media rights and production agency, has struck television rights deals in five Asia-Pacific countries for this weekend's closing stages of the Canadian Elite Basketball League Summer Series.
Ahead of tomorrow's semi-finals, Mediapro Canada has ensured coverage in Australia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Taiwan, a combined potential audience of 130 million people.
Pay-TV operators Fox Sports (Australia) and Astro SuperSport (Malaysia), Singapore telecoms firm Singtel, TapGo, the cable sports broadcaster in the Philippines, and Taiwanese digital sports broadcaster Sportcast will show the remaining three games.
Mediapro Canada has been producing live coverage of all 26 games in the series, which began on 25 July, and struck a deal with Twitch, the Amazon-owned platform, for live streaming.
Twitch recently launched a standalone sports category, featuring a range of top professional basketball leagues, including the development NBA G-League, Australia’s National Basketball League and Brazil’s Novo Basquete.
Tomorrow's semi-finals between Ottawa Blackjacks and Edmonton Stingers and Hamilton Honey Badgers and Fraser Valley Bandits and Sunday's championship game are among seven games from the CEBL Summer Series being broadcast in Canada on the CBC, the pubic-service broadcaster.
The other 19 games have been streamed on the free CBC Gem platform.
