Sky NZ makes streaming service available through more TV providers
Sky New Zealand, the pay-television broadcaster, has increased the range of smart televisions that subscribers can watch its Sky Sport Now streaming service on.
Sky NZ customers with Sky Sport Now subscriptions can now watch action being live-streamed through providers including TCL, Sony, Samsung and Panasonic.
The service is also now available on the Android TV platform from Freeview, through a smart box.
Customers can watch Sky Sport Now from mobile, tablet, laptop and PC-based devices.
Sky NZ is currently engaged in a rights battle with Spark, an NZ-based sports streaming service, which over the last 12 months has wrested various top-tier properties from the pay-TV broadcaster’s portfolio.
The pay-TV broadcaster is therefore increasing the roll-out and distribution of its own streaming service.
Sky still holds rights to multiple domestic and international sports properties, including a deal with New Zealand Rugby which it extended last October, with the rugby union body becoming an investor in the broadcaster in the process.
However, in late 2019 Sky lost rights to New Zealand Cricket’s home series to Spark, having been the body’s broadcaster of choice since 1995.
Spark also holds exclusive coverage rights to Formula 1 motor racing, and English soccer’s Premier League.
