Taça de Portugal final to get live airing in France on L'Equipe
L'Equipe, the free-to-air digital terrestrial television channel in France, has acquired rights to the final of this season's Taça de Portugal, the country's knockout clubs competition.
The showpiece game will be played between Benfica and newly-crowned Primeira Liga champions FC Porto in Coimbra on 1 August, kicking off at 8.45pm (BST).
Global distribution rights to the 2020 Taça de Portugal final are held by Spring Media, the Stockholm-based sports media agency, which struck a deal with the FPF, the Portuguese soccer federation, earlier this month.
L'Equipe showed the Taça de Portugal final in 2015 and 2016, but the match has been without a broadcaster in France since SFR Sport's deal ended after the 2017 edition.
Late last month, L’Equipe acquired exclusive media rights to the Copa del Rey, Spanish soccer's domestic cup competition, until the end of the 2021-22 season, and it also showed this season's final of Germany's DFB Pokal, rights to which were previously held by BeIN Sports.
This year's Taça de Portugal final will be the last to be televised in Portugal by public-service broadcaster RTP.
For the 2020-21 and 2021-22 seasons, the competition will be shown domestically by commercial broadcaster TVI, albeit the deal is non-exclusive.
